SUBJECT: Bulldog Blast 1-15-21

January 15, 2021

We know this is a challenging time for so many Bell families, and we know difficult decisions were made in each of our homes this week regarding remote learning versus participating in the hybrid model. None of this is easy! During challenging times like this, we need to come together as a community and support one another. Bell PTSA is here to advocate for our students, support our teachers, support our Bell families in-need, give back to our community, provide resources for families, offer educational enrichment opportunities, and much more.

We are all in this together!

Historically, the Bulldog Blast has been sent to the Bell community via the school administration. With the launch of Bell PTSA's new website, we will now be sending our newsletter direct from our website. Please make sure to register on our new site, so your info is up to date!

Here are a few ways we can all honor and celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

  • Get involved with advocacy work. There are a number of bills in the house and senate that will continue the work of dismantling racism (below are a few examples). If you support this work, contact your legislators to let them know.
    • HB 1054 - Establishing requirements for tactics and equipment used by peace officers
    • HB 1071 - Concerning bias-based criminal offenses
    • HB 1092 - Concerning law enforcement data collection
    • SB 5044 - Concerning professional learning, equity, and cultural competency

  • Here is a video reading of the book, I am Martin Luther King, Jr. (Ordinary People Change the World) by Brad Meltzer, read by Ms. Melange.

Washington State's Legislative Session started on January 11, 2021. During a typical year, we would head to Olympia and meet with our legislators face-to-face during the legislative session. This year, all the work will be done virtually. This is an opportunity for all community members to take action from their home via phone or computer. For those of you who are new to advocacy work, this is a wonderful way to get started. Check out our advocacy page to learn more and to get involved.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of Bell PTSA's new website. This website was created to (1) Enhance communication with our community, (2) Share more information about what Bell PTSA does, (3) Make it easier for community members to get involved, and (4) Improve the processes for donating, becoming a member, volunteering, etc.

Please register and complete your family information and directory preferences so we can ensure your information is up to date and we can make sure these newsletters and other pertinent info can make its way to you!

Bell PTSA is thrilled to continue to bring educational enrichment opportunities to our Bell students through Art with Mrs. Lustgarten. Check out the wonderful art lessons on our new website. Keep creating, Bell Bulldogs!

Please upload your remote learning photos to TreeRing, so we can create a yearbook to capture this unprecedented school year. We want to see your outdoor PE lessons, your science experiments, your remote learning in your jammies. We want to capture this unique year in photos! Go to TreeRing or download the app. Our school code is 1015269962362510. If you're unable to upload the photo(s) or if you have questions, please email yearbook@agbellPTSA.org.

Volunteer Opportunity

Are you good with numbers? Do you happen to be an accountant (added bonus!)? We are looking for three volunteers to do a mid-year financial review of Bell PTSA's books. This process includes reviewing the legal records, transactions, bank statements, monthly reports, etc. This checklist will be completed as part of the financial review process. This is a one-time commitment for the year and will take approximately 2-3 hours. Please email treasurer@agbellptsa.org if you can help out!

Other volunteer opportunities can be found on the volunteer page of our new website.
